Abalone is a type of shell which is formed by some sea mollusks as the inner layer. Nacre, or shell, is strong, resilient and iridescent in light at different viewing angles. Particularly beautiful are the Blue Paua and Zealand Blue Abalone which can be crushed or carved and set into a ring in many creative ways. Gemstones, precious and semi-precious, such as opal, turquoise sapphire, bring elegant color when inlayed in a ring.
